Emergent Properties is an attempt to go back to basics. This collection of songs is united by a desire to have fun making music without overthinking the process. The result is a release infused with honesty and authenticity.
The opening track “Little Dog” was originally written as a tribute to a deceased pet, but evolved into a celebration of the euphoric joy a little dog can bring to your life.
“State of Being” was an exercise in songwriting where the sound design was intentionally put off until the musical composition was complete.
The tone of the album shifts towards melodic house with “Umami”, which leans on textures and melodies to handle the storytelling.
“Delicate Method” was an attempt to answer the question: “What can we accomplish with a single arpeggiator, a pad, and a drum loop?”
“Latitude” should be skipped.
The album closer, “White Wedding”, was inspired by a karaoke experience and is Oddiol's most energetic track to date, fusing Billy Idol's iconic vocals with heavy house beats.
